FMFTV: Showcasing Community Projects

January 18, 2015 in Community Issues, Health & Fitness, Latest Articles, News, Sport, Uncategorized

Happy New Year to all of our members, visitors and friends!

Towards the end of last year, we at FunMeFit, decided to launch a community TV channel to showcase, review and promote the various events, activities and projects running within the communities where some of our members are based.

As social media is becoming more embedded into the lives of people across the community, YouTube, naturally is somewhere people are increasingly turning to for answers to questions, for training and education and for entertainment and fun.

Video sharing and downloading are increasing each month. According to recent YouTube statistics, more than 1 billion unique users visit the social network each month – although the reach of a small community video could remain substantially lower, stranger things have happened and that’s an awful lot of potential traffic to miss out on for your business or organisation.

For many smaller clubs, organisations, event organisers and businesses, resources and expenditure might not cover developing content for videos on YouTube. FunMeFit has taken on a couple of filming projects so far where we have filmed, edited and uploaded content for local community projects deserving a voice.

The Chronic Pain Swimming Group Project

Most recently, the MoveMore network forwarded us the details of a small chronic pain swimming group project based at Aston Swimming pool, Sheffield, run by ShipShape and a few volunteers. We arrived with our small camera on its tripod, a microphone and some roughly jotted notes to meet the group. As we are volunteers ourselves, we were unsure as to whether our informal appearance and approach would enable us to gather necessary information about the group.

Upon speaking with Don and Karen, the group organisers and chronic pain sufferers themselves, it was clear to us that these people were inspirational individuals, committed to providing support to some in the community who find themselves challenged, more than most, each day by not just pain but anxieties and other difficulties.

As we spoke to some members of the group, their stories were of overcoming extreme challenges just to attend the group, the group was a huge step forward, helping them out of isolation and anxiety.

Watch and listen to Don and Karen here.

Watch and listen to Janice’s story here. Or see below.

Watch and listen to Alison and her son Jonathan’s story here.

Watch and listen to Yvonne’s story here.

FunMeFit’s limited resources and the fact that we run it around day jobs, children and other commitments mean that we can’t assist every member, organisation or group within our community who contacts us but we will make every effort to cover those inspirational stories like those involved in the Aston Swim Group, Sheffield.

You can view all of our videos so far here.

This weekend, we are looking forward (time and commitments allowing) to attending an event run by one of our long-standing, supportive members, WDSAUK in Sheffield on Saturday.
See event here.

Promote yourself on our new Directory!

June 15, 2013 in Community Issues, Events, Latest Articles, News, Opportunities, Other, Uncategorized, Website Updates

It’s been a busy year so far for FunMeFit but we’ve finally managed to launch our new directory for members to add their businesses and services to. The best part is, it’s free for a basic listing.

We’ve been planning to directory now for about 2 years and once we told Foster and Scott (our lovely web designers) about it, they thought it was a brill idea!

The idea of it and of the FunMeFit community in general is that it helps to bring the community together in one place where the great work that many of our members do can be recognised and promoted.

The launch of our new directory means that all of our members can now list their business or services or clubs in a place where visitors to the website and other members can search for them by name, area or category.

As we can’t keep running FunMeFit without generating any revenue, we are also offering promotional packages for businesses that join the directory. If you want to list your business/group/club/service for free, that’s great but if you want to receive special features such as your own promotional page, a gallery of your images, your own contributors blog and an offers section that feeds through to our homepage then go Premium! We’re offering great rates and a lot in return. By upgrading, you’ll also be helping us keep FunMeFit going!

You can see what the packages have to offer here

“We’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported us through think and thin, everyone who has joined and offered their support and a big thank you to those who are spreading the word about what we do.

Keep telling your friends, family, sports clubs, neighbors, contacts and whoever else you can think of about FunMeFit because we want to expand the community so that it’s a really useful place for everyone to connect and discover what’s on in their community”.

Hijinx Theatre – Positive Work in the Community!

April 5, 2013 in Children & Play, News, Uncategorized

hijinx theatre performance

We’re proud of the wonderful things that our members are doing across the UK. Whether they’re getting people more active in sport, helping people develop skills and confidence or offering services that really benefit their local community, we’re always promoting their work and helping to raise awareness via social media.

One of our newer members – Hijinx Theatre is really making a special contribution to their community across Wales. Not only is Hijinx Theatre one of the leading theatre companies in Wales but they’re advocates for the inclusion of people with learning difficulties in the arts.

Watch the video that they sent us, it really shows how vital their work is to help more people feel included in their community. We think that if we applied their ethos to all activity groups, sports clubs, organisations and community networks, the community would benefit so much from the imagination and creativity of people with learning difficulties.

Let’s make our work inclusive to all! Thank you Hijinx! @HijinxTheatre
