Who are we?

 

 Kate Hill, Founder – BA (Hons), NCTJ, AAT

Bio: I’m a thirty-something mother of two who is passionate about improving the community, promoting health and helping to improve the lives of people across the UK. I graduated from The University of Sheffield in 2008 with a BA in Journalism Studies and have been heavily involved in community sport, voluntary projects and assisting people all over with their marketing.

For years now, I’ve been writing and handling social media for organisations, businesses and groups across the UK as a marketing consultant at Steel City Hub. Around my day job in accountancy and business development at Hill and Co Accountants in Sheffield, I’ve set up PR campaigns for charities and businesses, written and implemented full marketing strategies,  and  have also been actively involved in community volunteering and fundraising for various charities and projects.

The idea for the FunMeFit network developed after I’d been organising fun, social, fitness meet-ups with other young women, which I’d promoted using local forums. I was overwhelmed with the response and thought it would be great to have one place to bring people together online so that more positive activities could be created and shared. Since its launch in February 2012, I’m extremely proud to have over 350 wonderful members from across the UK made up of businesses, organisations, sports clubs, groups and individuals – all with a huge part to play in creating a better community – and all worth promoting.

 

Andy Picken – DIPHE, HND, BA (Hons)

Bio: I am 35 years of age and passionate about the benefits of physical activity and the overall benefits it can bring to communities and individuals’ lives. I graduated from the University of Leeds with a BA in Sport, Health, Leisure and Management in 2004, an HND in Leisure studies in 2001 and a DIPHE in Health Promotion from Sheffield Hallamshire University in 2010. But besides the education, the real learning began through my community work – spanning Doncaster and Leeds in a variety of community and health improvement roles.

I have worked across the NHS, the Local Authority and the voluntary and community sector. I have experience in grant writing for the not for profit sector and I have seen great things happen when people come together to make things happen for the wider benefit of their community, from community allotment schemes, exercise schemes to back to work schemes. People power really does work. Often the idea is there, but the often ‘perceived’ barrier to starting often proves too hard to overcome. FunMeFit can help nurture these community project ideas.

I also provide professional services that focus on article writing, copywriting, providing website content and fund writing across the voluntary and community sector and offer services to the private sector. Some of my work is also taken up working closely with professional athletes to support building their profile online and offline, as well as aligning sports persons with businesses to form new partnerships. I specialise in supporting businesses in sponsoring athletes and making use of public relations to extract as many mutual benefits as possible.

In my own time, as you may guess, I am fairly active, by no means a super fit athlete but I firmly believe an active lifestyle is an easy choice to make, with far reaching benefits, both physically and mentally. Alongside FunMeFit I want to help other people achieve this in the community and benefit from a moderately active lifestyle. Small changes – big gains.

I love what the FunMeFit brand stands for and the added value its professional marketing services provide to its growing network. I know there is fantastic work going on out there, but often it’s hard for activity providers to become ‘visible’. This is where the FunMeFit team can really help.
